Abstract

Cordgrass is a type of plant that is really important in coastal marshes. Cordgrass borders marshes along the Atlantic seaboard from Newfoundland in the north to central Florida in the south. It is also found bordering the Gulf of Mexico from the Panhandle of Florida to Texas. This handout describes cordgrass in terms of habitat, flowers, leaf blades, stems, rhizomes, shoots, and roots. Explanations of the importance of cordgrass and how to pick, pot, and plant cordgrass are included.
