One woman's journey : a collection of creative nonfiction

Abstract

I have experienced great joy and sorrow in the course of my journey toward personal growth and development. My desire to become a woman with spiritual and emotional substance began approximately twenty-three years ago in a state of total hopelessness. This thesis comprises essays that define significant, telling events in my adolescent and young adult life. These essays trace a path from being the oldest child of a family racked with addiction to the frustration of being a 300-pound 18 year-old to the continued impact of addiction, personal and imposed, on my young adult life. This thesis is the beginning of a much larger body of work, which will continue to trace my journey to the hopeful, healthy woman I am today.
