A Simulation of the AN/BQQ-6 Sonar Depth Sounding Group

Abstract

A Simulation of the AN/ BQQ-6 Sonar Depth Sounding Equipment is presented. The training value of this type of simulation, the ocean characteristics modeled, the BQQ-6 fathometer equipment characteristics, operator control of the simulation, and the computer implementation are described. The simulation provides the user with a brief explanation of purpose and operation, and an opportunity to revise parameters used in the training session. The parameters include the session length, ocean and vessel depths, and various media characteristic values. Displays representing the BQQ-6 strip chart recorder and control panel are used during the training session. The PC keyboard is used to operate the displayed BQQ-6 controls. The intent is to train the student to operate the fathometer in a variety of environmental conditions.
