At the left of the image is Mrs. BJ Moore, an African American woman who is wearing a paisley dress. She is holding a bucket of sherbert and is scooping the contents into a large punch bowl. The bowl is sitting on a table with cups and a plate of covered food. To the right of her is Mary Cooks, who is wearing a light-colored dress. The person to the right of her is an African American woman who is not visible and whose identity is unknown. The woman at the right of the image who is wearing a paisley dress is Dr. Avaloz. In the background behind the women can be seen African American men and women who are seated in chairs. Trees can also be seen in the background. On the back of the image is written in pencil, "L-R Mrs. BJ Moore, Mary Cooks, ?, Dr. Avaloz; Bethune birthday celebration, 1970's." The photographer of the image is unknown.
