Mrs. Bethune is wearing a dress, broach, and corsage, and is shaking the right hand of Mrs. Kathryn Groves, who is also wearing a dress, a hat with a feather sticking out, and carrying a handbag in her left arm. In the background can be seen other individuals and curtains. On the back of the photograph is written the place and date the image was taken, as well as, "Soror Mary McLeod Bethune with Mrs. Kathryn Groves, Women's Activities Counselor." The photographer of the image is unknown.
