Biographical Note

Taken from the Orlando Sentinel, June 21, 1970: Loring A. Chase is one of the original settlers of Winter Park (Fla.). Loring came to Orange County from Chicago during February 1881. He came to Florida for health reasons. He came upon the lands that are now Winter Park. He revisted the land with Oliver E. Chapman of Canton, Mass. The two decided to develop the land, and went about contacting the owners of the land. After procuring land, they went about surveying and plot a town. During the next 4 years the two built up and advertised the town. In February 1885 a charter incorporating Winter Park was obtained, Chapman and Chase were deeded all the property.
