Description

Several photos of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pempey at St. Luke's Church on April 18, 1954. The bride (Betty Mikler) was the youngest of the 12 children of Founders, Joseph, Sr. and Katarina Mikler. She was born in Slavia On Oct. 22, 1925 and baptized in the little wooden church on April 25, 1926, by visiting Pastor Jaroslav Pelikan. She died on Sept. 26, 2009 and is buried in St. Luke's Cemetery. The wedding took place in the first brick church, built in 1939 and the wedding photos of the church as it appeared at that time may be the only interior photos ever taken during a wedding ceremony before the church was radically altered in 1957. 5x7" reprints scanned on Epson 10000 at SLLC, April, 2012.
