Klimek, Adam, Jr.; Klimek, Mary Kopca; Klimek, Albert; Klimek Family

The Adam Klimek, Jr. Family is considered one of the Founding Families of Slavia even though the patriarch and his wife did not become permanent residents of Slavia (the Lutheran Haven) until the mid-1970s. Early in Slavia's history, c. 1912-13. Adam Klimek, Jr. (a brother to the wife of Paul Lukas) was called upon to assist with the repairs at the sawmill that was so important to the new settlers in building their homes and barns. Although Adam and his wife raised their three sons in Lakewood, OH, they maintained a second home in Slavia and often stayed in Florida for months at a time, attending St. Luke's, and were actively involved with congregational life during those periods. Adam, Jr. was born in Slovakia in 1890 and died in Florida in 1987. His wife, Mary, was then cared for at the Lutheran Haven Nursing Home until her own death in 1993. One of the couple's three sons (Albert) maintained his own relationship with St. Luke's and the Slavia community over the years and eventually moved to the Lutheran Haven, where he and his wife spent their last years.
