She is wearing a dress which is made of both cloth and lace, with a button-up skirt. Her left hand is placed in her lap, and a ring can be seen on her left ring finger. Her right hand is resting on a book, which is sitting on a table. She is sitting on an ornately carved chair. She is wearing a pin on her shirt. On the back of the image is written, "1895-1910; Dr. Bethune as a young woman abt 30-35 years old." The photographer of the image is unknown.
