Description

Procopius was a Greek-speaking historian. He was born in the Middle East around 500 AD and worked for Belisarius, one of Emperor Justinian’s generals (who eventually fell afoul of Empress Thedora). Procopius wrote a History of the Wars of Justinian but at the same time he also wrote a Secret History. The Secret History presented a different view of events and which was highly critical of Justinian and Theodora.
