Generation Of, And Interactions Between, Quadratic Spatial Solitons In Non-Critically-Phase-Matched Crystals

Experiments are reviewed on quadratic solution generation, and soliton interactions between each other and with a nonlinear interface in non-critical birefringence phasematched KNbO3 and periodically poled KTP. Spatially symmetric and asymmetric patterns of multiple soliton-like beam generation were observed and interpreted when only a high intensity fundamental beam is used as the input. The nonlinear reflection of quadratic solitons from a nonlinear interface characterized by a half wavelength shift in the poling structure was obtained. Finally the interactions between pairs of solitons were measured in KNbO3, including the creation of new solitons in non-coplanar geometries.
