About the Author

I would like to acknowledge Hispanic Chamber of Metro Orlando for assisting in my research and insights into their operations and activity in the Hispanic community, and my LDR 3905 course instructor, Ms. Donna Mercado for her support on this project.

Abstract, Summary, or Creative Statement

My project, Uniting the Latino Community: Overcoming Disconnection for Collective Empowerment, aims to address the internal divisions within the Latino community in the U.S. caused by differences in nationality, culture, and socioeconomic status. These divisions can limit political power, create economic disparities, and increase social inequalities. The research explores the factors contributing to these divisions and identifies strategies to promote unity and collective advancement. While existing research often focuses on external challenges like discrimination, there is less focus on the internal factors that prevent unity within the community. By fostering unity, my project aims to enhance the Latino community’s social capital, political influence, and ability to advocate for common interests. One key lesson I learned is that promoting internal cohesion within a diverse group can have a powerful impact, not only for the group itself but also for the broader society, encouraging diversity and inclusion across the nation.
