Abstract, Summary, or Creative Statement
Physician-assisted death (PAD), also known as medical aid in dying or physician-assisted suicide, is a process that allows terminally ill patients to end their life under the medical supervision of a clinician. As opposed to euthanasia, PAD patients orally ingest the lethal medication, and the physician plays a less direct role in the process. With a focus on the United States, this presentation aims to examine the criteria that need to be met for a person to be considered for PAD, the procedure a person needs to follow to make a request for a prescription of lethal medication, and the variety of drugs used in the process.
