Description
The service learning portion of my Psychology of Gender class was something very new to me. At first, I was stressed trying to find where I could volunteer and gain valuable experience since I am new to the Orlando area. One thing I noticed when I moved here was the amount of people on the street without a home. Back home, it wasn’t very common since it was a small town with a small population. This intrigued me, and I figured it would be interesting to volunteer where I can work with these individuals and learn more about the issue in our community, while also finding a correlation with my Psychology of Gender class. I came across the Samaritan Resource Center in Union Park and decided to walk in and ask for any volunteering opportunities. As soon as I walked in, I was introduced to Brynne, the volunteer coordinator, one of the sweetest, passionate, and welcoming people I have met by far. She took me in immediately and gave me a day when I could start helping out.
