[page 1] 45 Deare [Dear] George Barbados the 8:2d mo [April 8]; 1682 I have now received thine in Answer to mine formerly sent, & [and] though but answered in part; yet am very well satisfied therewith as from one yt [that] (I doe beleive) does truly desire the peace ^& [and] prosperitee [prosperity]^ of this Church, & [and] that love & [and] unity may florish [flourish]; & [and] true peace may be maintaind [maintained] amongst the Children of this Church of the first born & [and] the true lovers of ye [the] Gospell [Gospel] of peace; Deare [Dear] George, if I had not knowne [known] thee [you] from the begining [beginning] of the apearance [appearance] of the glorios [glorious] day, the dawnings whereof (in our dayes) first made knowne [known] its splendor through [deletion]the[/deletion] thee [you]; to many of the Sons of men, & [and] if I had not known thee [you] to be a faithful minister, of ye [the] Everlasting Gospell [Gospel]; I should not have so wrote to thee [you] as I then did; but never Complaind [Complained] on my owne [own] acco [accord], nor had I not bene [been] an Eye wittness [eyewitness] yt [that] much more violence way; I ought to be amongst Christians. I had never put pen to paper but I hope in God of more moderation will be used for a tyme [time] to come amongst us; for such procedings [proceedings] has but produced hardness in those whom tenderness would have overcom [overcome]; before Solomon Eccles went away he very much endevored [endeavored] to make peace amongst all friends in ye [the] Island, & [and] if he had tyme [time] I beleive [believe] he would in a good measure a brought it to pass; but heare [here] too many it sooner not to do fires it; but I hope in tyme [time] they will see their error. Jne Rous [Jane Rous?] has both in publick [public?] and private Interceeded yt [that] all former Animossities [Animosities] might be forgoten [forgotten], & [and] controversies might cease, Som has too much obstructed those propositions the Lord open their & [and] evory [every] ones understandings yt [that] none it profess the truth may any way prevent the prosperity of the worke [work] of the Lord is the true and Reall [real] desire of my heart; As to Wm Rogers [William Rogers?] his bookes [books] they doe [do] litle [little] or noe [no] hurt heare [here] [heare?] not many friends knows [deletion]am[/deletion]that heare [here] is any such bookes [books], but a bristow [Bristol?] man brought 10 of them & [and] Som [Some] it was gone from yt [that] wch [which] they had prosesessed [processed]; got them & [and] shows them to others, but if moderate lookes [looks] upon it but only to be som [some] peice [piece] of Revenge; so it is as if noe [no] such booke [book] had ever bene [been]; Deare [Dear] Geo: [George Fox] I am now going to see the new Countreys [Countries] of new Jarsey [New Jersey] and Pensilvania [Pennsylvania], I Cannot Say to Setle [Settle] there, but hope if ye [the] Lord plese [please] to be back befor [before] ye [the] yeare [year] Expires; & [and] my Cry & [and] desire to the Lord is to preserve me in his holy feare [fear], whilst I have a being heare [hear] below; & [and] I desire thy [your] prayers for ye [the] same; wch [which] I beleive [bellieve] is to the Lord for all that loves the truth, So with my very deare [dear] love to thee [you], my dear friend; whom in my heart I have: both loved and honored thou [you], & [and] it deservedly, from ye [the] first, & [and] if any pretend adoration to any man (tho: [though] never so holy, Are but false flaterers [flatterers] of the person wch [which] I know, thou [you] would reprove in any, tho: [though] Som [Some] may cast assertions wch [which] I hope I shall never have cause to beleive [believe] [deletion][/deletion] so wth [with] my my very deare [dear] love I allways [always] remayne [remain] thy [your] truly loving friend & [and] hope I shall never change ...
