[page 1] 46 Dear ffather [father] Barbados ye [the] 30th of the [underline]11[/underline]th moth [January 11] 1681 I lately writ [wrote] a letter to thee [you] GW & [and] AP wherein I gave you an acct [account] of my rect [reciept] of ye [the] Answer to the quarterly meetings paper & [and] yt [that] it was read at our last Quarterly meeting at Ralph ffret wels [Ralph Fretwells], & [and] that there was a generall [general] submission to ye [the] Judgment [Judgement] on the paper, & [and] yt [that] the paper was taken out of the booke [book] & [and] your Answer put in the place, also I advised you how Jno weale [John Weale] pro posed [proposed] the giving forth of a paper of Condemnation, wch [which] upon some discourse with him since, I doe [do] [deletion]not[/deletion] understand he did not in tend [intend] for all the subscribers, but only for Rff [RF] who drew ye [the] paper I doe [do] understand yt [that] some freinds [friends] in England have [iudged] judged that we hath [has] been hardly dealt with, both in taking the meeting from his house, & [and] in freinds [friends] with drawing at other times, wn [when] the meet ing [meeting] was there [their] freinds [friends] found it was an opportunitie [opportunity] of those who were not well affected to truth getting together, & [and] uttering their preiudice [prejudice] agst [against] freinds [friends], & [and] it was hard to have a freindly [friendly] correspondence with him at other times without being fre quently [frequently] troubled with hearing his discontents agst [against] diverse freinds [friends], but yt [that] if freinds [friends] have been short or anything to [too] hard heretofore, yt [that] noe [no] meanes [means] might be left untryed [untried] wher [where] by [whereby] to bring ^him^ into unitie [unity], they offered for a tryall [trial] to remove a meeting (neerby [nearby]) to his house, & [and] to passe [pass] by & [and] over looke [overlook] all yt [that] was past [passed], & [and] if he could ^not^ bury all without some further satis faction [satisfaction] in discourse, when his spirit was coole [cool], & [and] love upper most [uppermost], they would be willing to have, a meeting with him and discourse things with a desire of his satisfaction to him, but he doth [does] not seeme [seem] inclinable to any notion yet made to him, his pre iudice [prejudice] seemes [seems] to be most agst [against] RH: & [and] it is thought he would over looke [overlook] all besides, & RH hath [has] appeared very desirous to remove the preiudice [prejudice], but JW is not willing to Joyne [join] with him in it: here is a booke [book] come over called Babels builders unmasking them [deletion]se[/deletion] selves [themselves], wherein are many reflections both on the paper written here & [and] your Answer, wch [which] hath [has] been of some service, for by it some who were violent saw how [m...[smudge]...er] they came to those bad spirits yt [that] writ [wrote] it, & [and] how they agree in their reflections, wch [which] I had some thing [something] upon my spirit to write ^an^ answer to & [and] send here enclosed leaving ^it^ to the Judgmt [judgement] of thee [you] & [and] freinds [friends] to alter wt [what] you may see Convenient, or whether to print ^it^ or not, for I suppose frind [friend] in England not knowing the end & [and] intent in writing ^it^ though very charitable in answering it, would not be soe [so] possitive [positive] in stop ping [stopping] that flood of aspersions cast upon truth by meanes [means] of it, as one yt [that] was present & [and] heard & [and] saw all yt [that] was spoken or done & [and] I looke [look] upon yt [that] truth is concerned in answering it yt [that] those foule [foul] aspertions cast on truth may be wiped of: we have a great desire to goe [go] to England, & [and] doe [do] thinke [think] to begin our voyage about the beginning of the 3d month [May], but if my busi nes [business] will not permit me, I thinke [think] my wife & [and] children may goe [go], & [and] I may follow as the Lord makes way: Christopher New ham [Christopher Newham] is come hither, but doth [does] not appear well pleased, nei ther [neither] doe [do] I understand he concernes [concerns] himselfe [himself] as formerly Rff [RF] intends this year for England, [&?] to leave his son Ralph in his busines [business], I doe [do] not know but we may endeavour [endeavor] to goe [go] together I hope in time things may be well here, for since the proposing of a generall [general] unitie [unity], meetings are much fresher yn [than] they have bin [been] [page 2] my wife & [and] children through the Lords mercy are well & [and] our [duty?] is presented to thee [you] & [and] my mother & [and] our love to my bro: :thers [brothers] & [and] sisters & [and] children & [and] all freinds [friends] wch [which] is most at present from if thou [you] writes to me about any publick [public] concernes [concerns] of truth direct thy [your] letter for me or in my absence for Joseph Borden, who is a very honest freind [friend]. Thy [Your] dear son in the truth John Rous. [page 3] ffor [For] my Deare [Dear] ffather [Father] George ffox [George Fox] this in London. john rous to g ff [George Fox] & [and] frendes [friends] for advice to be given & [and] sent to barbatus [Barbados] 1681 ancsered [answered] [page 4]
