Abstract
Letter dated June 12, 1670 (June 2, 1670 Old Style) from Phineas Pemberton—then imprisoned in Lancaster Castle—to his father, Ralph Pemberton.

Lo: [Loving] father [Ralph Pemberton]
my Duty to thee [you] remembered this is to acquaint thee [you] yt [that] I [page tear: ha…] [have]
recd [received] [page tear: th…] [thy] [your] letter yester day [yesterday] but as for my liberty there is
nothing done at present ye [the] Jaylor [jailor] would not Condisend [condescend] yt [that]
I should go hom [home] but he said yt [that] if my master could
gett [get] ^an^ order from under the shirriffs [sheriff’s] hand he would lett [let]
us all go home so yt [that] my master is gone to warr=
=ington [Warrington] ^he intends to let these the next 7 day^ to see if he can do any thing [anything] with the [page tear: sherif] [sheriff]
and he says he will send mee [me] a [page tear: le…er] [letter] by post form [from]
warrington what he hath [has] done in the thing so I would
not have thee [you] to Come before thou [you] heere [hear] either
from mee [me] or my master; [strikethrough: illegible] my master was very

eminent freinds [friends] & [and] they aprove [approve] of them very well
& [and] theire [their] desire is yt [that] he will be ffaith=ful [Faithful] to what
