Abstract

Letter possibly dated 1700 from Richard Johns to Israel Pemberton. Johns[on] expresses how glad he is to hear from Phineas, who has not written him for a long time. He has also not heard from [Samuel] (a mutual friend of theirs?), thinking him "grown proud."

Lo: Friend [Loving Friend]

I Reed [read] thyne [yours] wth [with] much joy to see yt [that] thee [you]
have not forgott [forgotten] mee [me] for my not heareing [hearing] from
thee [you] this great while before caused me to think
thou [you] hadst [had] forgott [forgotten] mee [me] for I never mist [missed] my oppertun^nity^ [opportunity]
but I writ [wrote] to the [thee/you] & [and] I hope thou [you] ^wilt^ [will] doe [do] the Like to mee [me]
& [and] then wee [we] shall renew our Love againe [again] yt [that] was once
between us when wee [we] weare [were] together: for I see out
of Sight out of mind yt [that] I see by Sam [Samuel Carpenter] for I have
Not soe [so] much as had one line from him this long
time. I believe hee [he] has grown proud he thinks it not
worth his while to wright [write] to me though I miss no
oppertunity [opportunity] to him so I think not to Enlarge all
prsnt [present] but my Love to self & [and] all that asks for mee [me].
I Rest hopeing [hoping] thy friend till [until] Death
