Abstract

In his search for the rarest of historical material on colonial Florida, the historian will find in the John Carter Brown Library a good part of all that is available anywhere. There an extraordinary collection of source materials on the history of North, South, and Central America of the period before 1801 has been brought together for the use of scholars. More than four hundred titles, many of the utmost rarity and some unique, have been listed in that library for the Union Catalog of Floridiana. The most important of these have been selected and are described here by Dr. Wroth against a background of Florida’s changing sovereignty. This contribution of a scholar for scholars is of permanent value to Florida historians.
