Abstract

Recently on a visit to the cartographic division of the National Archives in Washington, the author was shown the map drawn by Captain Hugh Young of the United States Army Corps of Topographical Engineers to accompany his “A Topographical Memoir of East and West Florida With Itineraries [of General Andrew Jackson’s Army, 1818].” The “Memoir,” written in 1818, was published in 1934-1935, in the Florida Historical Quarterly. The map had become separated from the “Memoir,” and previous efforts to locate it were not successful. The map is a fragment of a topographical sketch captioned “Map of the Seat of War in East Florida during the Seminole Compaign, by H. Young, Top. Engineer.”
