Walkabout the Galaxy
Type 1 civiliation
Astrophysics and Astronomy | Physics
The astroquarks are joined by Dr. Phil Metzger who spends a lot of time thinking about how our civilization can make the great leap into space. We may not be that far away from truly moving off our home planet and becoming a "Type 1 Civilization" that inhabits the solar system and not just one planet. We discuss how we'll get there, how long it might take, the challenges we face, and of course the latest nerd news and trivia from the world of Pandora (the Avatar one, not Saturn's moon).
Tired of finding everything so easily? Bored by the abundance of food, energy, clothing, televisions, smart phones? Already got that stamp with the upside-down plane? Or that Jethro Tull 45 mislabeled Jethro Toe? If the ubiquitous of goods in our consumer society have you wondering where all the suspense and adventure have gone, then maybe you should think about getting some unobtanium. Unobtainium's unique composition is so exclusive we cannot legally divulge it here. But they are oh so worth obtainium-ing them. The properties of unobtainium on the Avatar wiki page have been described as "natural" and "varied." It's worth has been described as "very valuable." Do we really need to go on? Of course not. So find new purpose in life and dedicate yourself to the pursuit of unobtainium. We're confident that not only will you never obtain any "-um," but that if somehow you did, you would find your reason for living, fully sustainiumed.
