The Netherlands National Tourist Office, in conjunction with Rijkswaterstaat, was planning the development of a major new entertainment/educational complex designed to commemorate the long history of Dutch struggle against the sea. The proposed development was tentatively called Water Wonderland and was planned for development at a site near Lelystad, Netherlands as well as an alternative site near Willemstad. The study focuses on delineating economic and physical planning parameters necessary to develop Water Wonderland at a site in the Netherlands that would be both commercially and financially viable. The report has the following sections: 1) introduction; 2) summary and conclusions, attendance potential, capacity requirements, financial parameters; 3) resident market; 4) tourist market; 5) experience at major theme parks in the United States; 6) experience at recreation attractions in the Netherlands; 7) project analysis, attendance potential, Design-Day planning parameters for the Lelystad site; facilities requirements for the Lelystad site, financial analysis of the Lelystad site. The report includes 7 figures and 45 tables.
