Abstract
Updating earlier ACA sponsored evaluations of doctoral programs in speech communication, this survey reports peer perceptions gathered from two Speech Communication Association samples: a random membership sample and a sample of first authors in major communication journals. Respondents rated programs in rhetorical and communication theory, interpersonal communication, organizational communication, mass communication, public address, communication education, oral interpretation, and overall quality. The article presents rankings and ratings by specialty area and compares patterns across the two respondent groups. It emphasizes that peer evaluation is only one indicator of program quality and cautions readers to interpret rankings by broad ranges rather than precise ordinal placement.
