Abstract
Written as a reflective assessment of academic employment prospects, this article considers job opportunities for communication graduates in elementary, secondary, and higher education. It identifies positive indicators in school settings, including certification, basic skills mandates, communication curriculum labels, and continuing attention to speaking and listening. For higher education, it points to demand in business, professional, organizational, broadcasting, film, mass communication, and renewed rhetorical studies, while also noting enrollment decline, budget pressure, and possible departmental vulnerability. The article cautions departments against overcommitting permanent resources during periods of high demand and urges coordinated work across educational levels to sustain communication education and employment opportunities.
