Abstract

The article addresses faculty evaluation procedures for creative faculty, especially theatre faculty, in reappointment, promotion, and tenure decisions. Framed from an administrative perspective, it reviews criteria for teaching, disciplinary contribution, and service, while emphasizing that creative faculty should receive systematic review comparable to colleagues in more traditional scholarly fields. The discussion distinguishes classroom and campus production work from peer reviewed creative activity, then considers several ways to document artistic achievement. These include publication about creative practice, professional work beyond the university, and structured outside review of campus productions. The article situates artistic evaluation within communication administration by stressing clear standards, fair procedures, peer assessment, faculty development, and careful judgment in decisions that shape departments and students over time.
