Abstract
Addressing faculty evaluation in radio, television, and sound recording, this article responds to a model that treats creativity as analogous to originality in scholarship. It considers how outside reviewers might be identified, how candidate work should be selected for review, and how departments can document creative achievement for retention, tenure, and promotion. The discussion emphasizes the value of reviewer pools, careful attention to local and national standards, and narrative evaluation rather than numerical scoring. It also cautions that broadcast distribution, popularity, technology, intended audience, and market conditions may complicate judgments of quality. The article situates media production within communication administration by urging clear departmental criteria, ongoing review, careful record keeping, and integrity when comparing creative achievement with scholarly achievement.
