Abstract

Written from an arts administration perspective, this article addresses strategies for presenting theatre and arts educators in tenure and promotion review. It argues that administrators must work within existing academic systems while helping colleagues outside the arts understand creative labor, professional practice, and artistic achievement. The discussion identifies three areas of preparation, including administrative acceptance and support, counseling faculty about expectations, and building persuasive dossiers. Recommended practices include sharing national arts education statements, documenting production labor, developing professional evaluations, encouraging outside artistic work, and presenting candidate materials in formats legible to reviewers from other disciplines. The article situates arts faculty evaluation within communication administration by emphasizing strategic documentation, institutional advocacy, and careful preparation for advancement decisions.
