Abstract
The role of broadcast education within communication is described through the history and activities of a professional association linking media industries and higher education. The article reviews tensions between broadcasting practitioners and academic programs, especially over career preparation, research expectations, production work, and the practical needs of radio and television enterprises. It traces the development of an organization designed to improve dialogue between industry and educators while avoiding formal accreditation. The article outlines membership categories, governance structure, publications, annual meetings, faculty seminars, and internship initiatives that support broadcast educators and connect them with media professionals. It presents broadcast education as a significant part of communication studies because electronic media require both practical training and scholarly inquiry, and because cooperation between industry and universities can strengthen teaching, research, administration, and professional preparation.
