Abstract

This article presents an example of a comprehensive annual faculty activity report designed to serve both administrative and developmental purposes. The report, developed and refined over several years at Cornell University, provides a structured outline for faculty to document teaching, research, service, and professional development plans. It is intended to support salary recommendations, guide discussions of career objectives, and supply information for departmental reporting needs. The discussion addresses faculty concerns about evaluation, the role of departmental and institutional culture in shaping reporting practices, and the balance between voluntary participation and administrative requirements. The article concludes that while faculty response to reporting systems is mixed, a well-designed annual report can improve communication, ensure equitable recognition of accomplishments, and strengthen departmental planning,
