Abstract

This article outlines a senior seminar that functions as the capstone for speech communication majors, integrating rhetorical interpersonal organizational and mass communication theories through chronological exploration. The narrative chronicles the evolution from selective elective to required exit course, situating the design within accountability pressures and curriculum coherence goals. Course architecture combines discussion driven examinations, collaborative oral seminars, and a substantial theory application research project, each calibrated to foster analytical synthesis, library research competence, and professional presentation skill. Team teaching provides complementary expertise and multiple perspectives, while detailed evaluation rubrics promote transparency and formative feedback. By aligning integrative theory study with measurable competencies, this article presents a scalable framework through which departments can demonstrate learning outcomes, strengthen intellectual scaffolding, and respond proactively to institutional assessment demands across the undergraduate communication curriculum.
