Abstract

This article presents a policy framework for equitable faculty workloads in higher education theatre programs developed by a joint task force of ATHE and USITT. It argues that sustainable teaching load limits and production demands are essential to protect student learning faculty scholarship and safety. Recommendations urge institutions to articulate artistic and educational missions align production scale with resources recognize diverse forms of teaching such as studio laboratory practicum and integrate ethical collaboration among designers technologists and directors. The statement emphasizes that clear job descriptions balanced classroom and rehearsal commitments and attention to physical and mental wellness promote productivity and artistic quality. By situating workload policy within theatre administration curriculum planning and professional standards this article provides actionable guidance for deans chairs and accrediting bodies seeking fair resource allocation and improved educational outcomes.
