Abstract

This article reports an alumni outcomes assessment for a communication department at a public university, charting graduate experiences across two decades of degree conferral. A telephone questionnaire captured employment trajectories, continued education, curriculum satisfaction, and advising quality; results were cross tabulated with graduation era, gender, income level, and career field. Alumni credited coursework in interpersonal communication, theory, and internships for career readiness and life skills, expressed strong satisfaction with faculty engagement, yet requested additional practical skill offerings. Gender income disparities and perceptions of curriculum gaps inform recommendations for expanded applied courses, systematic advising, and ongoing longitudinal assessment. By integrating alumni survey methodology, outcomes evaluation, accountability policy, communication pedagogy, institutional research, and program planning, this article offers a replicable model for departments seeking evidence based quality enhancement and resource justification within higher education.
