Abstract

This article outlines a practical framework for designing and executing alumni outcomes assessment surveys in university communication programs. It details preparatory steps including funding allocation, alumni definition, time zone coding, questionnaire construction, interviewer training, and calendar planning. Emphasis is placed on telephone surveys and computer assisted data entry to achieve efficient data collection, reduce errors, and support rapid analysis. The discussion integrates lessons from a Boise State University project, offering checklists for budgeting, sampling, and staffing that departments can adapt to local contexts. By linking outcomes assessment, alumni survey methodology, communication curriculum evaluation, accountability policy, institutional research, and program planning, this article equips faculty administrators with replicable tools to document graduate success and guide evidence based decision making in higher education communication studies.
