Abstract

This article establishes quantitative benchmarks for research productivity among active administrator scholars in speech communication, using bibliometric analysis of the Index to Journals in Communication Studies Through 1990. Citation counts from nineteen core journals spanning 1915 to 1990 are aggregated to calculate mean median and modal publication rates, identify distribution patterns, and rank the twenty five most prolific administrators. Findings show a discipline wide mean of two point four eight articles per author, a modal value of one, and concentrated output within a select cluster of doctoral granting departments. Profiles of top performers reveal sustained publication across regional journals and emphasize early career productivity. The study argues that transparent yardsticks can inform tenure promotion merit pay and resource allocation decisions.
