Description
From the artist statement:
The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The spread of the virus caused an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease, which can cause those infected to experience mild to moderate respiratory illness, or some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. This can be difficult in a world where society relies heavily on social media and internet searches, which can contain articles or opinions that provide false information, leading to many misconceptions of the disease, the way it’s contracted, and means of prevention. This book uses a flagbook structure to debunk all the greatest misconceptions of the coronavirus through a narrative which personifies the virus as this visually presented monster character. The expressions of the coronavirus actions taken during the pandemic that ultimately allow for the virus’s continuous spread. The bottom text serves as the explanation, a simplified cumulation of various peer-reviewed scientific research, that gives reason to why it’s a misconception, and what should actually be done. The visuals of the coronavirus monster, as well all the purple-pink gradiented lung-esque monoprint with a broken down screenprinted coronavirus molecule, as usual for my books, grabs the viruses and illness. The book can be summed up by its ending question, “Are YOU keeping the CORONAVIRUS happy?” as it questions the viewer on what measures they have been taking to prevent the virus’s spread, and whether they fed into false information spread through the internet and social media.
