Artist statement:
The Aquatic Playing Card book was made with an accordion bind in mind. I wanted the viewer to be able to hold but play with the book they were holding a deck of cards. The cards are arranged in the order a regular deck of cards come in (54 cards). Each card has 2 different animal with enemy card animal belonging to a different type of order or class in the ocean. The back of the cards were “stamped” on with speedball paint after carving out the design on lino block.
