Description

Winner of the 2015 Book Arts Competition

I’ve been sewing for about as long as I can remember. My mom taught me to sew, and her mom before her. I was inspired by the act of sewing books together, and connected it to my own experiences with sewing clothing and costumes. I wanted the book to reflect my struggles; to do so, I included the multiple pattern pieces and fabric scraps I’ve used in various projects over the years. I’ve also tried to include snippets of details about some of the major projects, like my prom dresses and twirling costumes. I wanted the entire book to feel stitched; to that end, everything is sewn together, and even the text itself was made by my sewing machine.
