Recreation and Wellness Center (2002)

The present-day Recreation and Wellness Center opened on January 4, 2002 with 84,000 square feet and sits on the south side of campus near Academic Village. Recent renovations in 2009 and 2010 have improved intramural fields and added more than 65,000 square feet to the main building including more cardio and weight areas, a covered pool, and more general purpose space to the two-story building. The Recreation and Wellness Center facilities also include a climbing tower, group exercise studios, challenge course, and disc golf course along with its renovated spaces in the fitness floor, cardio floor, tennis courts, sand volleyball, basketball courts, and multipurpose courts. The new building is more than twelve times larger than the original building with 150,000 square feet.

The original building, built in July 1969 was a mere 11,712 square feet. It's several playing fields were built for tennis, badminton, volleyball, and basketball. A pool and locker building were also a part of the first recreation and wellness center at FTU. The estimated completion of the original building, according to the Central Florida Future, was in March of 1970. No image is currently available.
