Description

Euroc Fastigheter AB , Sweden’s major building materials conglomerate, was the owner of a massive quarry site in Malmo, Sweden. It was a primary source of limestone for cement production for over a century. Operations at the site were winding down and the quarry life as a mineral resource ended. Surface area of the quarry was approximately 80 hectares within a 100 hectare site. Through its subsidiary, The Theme Park Development Company, Ltd., Euroc was evaluating attraction and recreational development opportunities on this property, stimulated by the impending construction of a multi-billion kroner bridge connection between Copenhagen and Malmo. The bridge, known as Oresund Link would provide a direct ground link to Denmark and Western Europe with economic and logistical significance comparable to England’s channel tunnel connection to France. The report summarizes the findings of the charrette meeting which took place at Euroc Fastigheter AB headquarters at the quarry site March 3-4, 1994 where participant evaluated attraction and recreational development opportunities at the quarry property. The report includes the following nine sections: 1. introduction of participants, 2. objectives of the charrette, 3. site discussion, 4. market support, 5. program and planning data for comparative attractions, 6. concept discussions, 7. economic and sizing parameters, 8. implementation, 9. summary and wrap-up.
