Photo Description
The West Indian Flamingo is the national bird of The Bahamas. Concern for the protection of the West Indian Flamingo was reinforced with the creation of the Wildbirds Protection Act of 1905.The Bahamas National Trust, created by an Act of Parliament in 1959, manages the country’s national parks and conservation efforts of natural resources. The island of Great Inagua, the third largest and southernmost island in The Bahamas, is where the majority of West Indian Flamingos can be found. Hedley Vivian Edwards, in the background, can be seen commanding the flamingos during their march.
