Photo Description
A hotel employee dressed in white while carrying brooms walks by parked bicycles. There is a narrow path shaded by various trees. In the distance are coconut trees and a view of the bay. As of 2013, the Caneel Bay Resort, consisting of 150 acres, was leased to Rosewood Hotels by the United States National Park Service (NPS). The land was originally owned by Laurance Rockefeller and located within the Virgin Islands National Park (VINP) on Saint John, United States Virgin Islands. Rockefeller purchased much of the land near the northwest side of the island and later deeded the resort and over 5,000 acres of land to Jackson Hole Preserve, his family trust. In accordance with Rockefeller’s wishes Jackson Hole Preserve deeded the land and later the resort to the United States government in order to create a nature preserve. The VINP which encompasses more than 7,000 acres (more than half of Saint John) is run by the NPS. Slide labeled Caneel Bay Hotel St Johns.
