Abstract
Those who advocate for US national standards believe them to be imperative for the US to remain competitive in a global economy. The needs of the twenty-first century student require school leaders to understand the ubiquitous nature of what a global citizen means. This chapter unpacks the vast range of diverse perspectives of what educational leaders need to know about the terms global and global citizenship to better lead schools with a global focus. The quality theme analysis approach was utilized on a number of international, national, and state agency documents focused on the contextualization of the term global and global citizenship.
