Abstract

This article briefly summarizes a section of the literature review from the dissertation that reported on findings from a study that examined masters-level educational leadership students in Florida university graduate programs to examine student intentions to pursue an assistant principal position in relation to demographic and self-assessed leadership characteristics.This section of the literature review incorporated the following topics: Issues, recruitment and selection, program‟s look at candidate intentions, recruitment and commitment, district partnerships, program competition, and academic drift. These topics identify reasons administrative pools may have perceived shortages of quality candidates. Results can be used to inform state licensure system policy development, school district leadership academy professional development, and university educational leadership department selection, recruitment, and retention efforts.
