Abstract
Dynamical models of realistic motion of soil under excavating activities are required in computer animations and real-time interactive simulations in which changes of the natural terrain surface are involved. Analytic methods to simulate soil manipulations are presented in this paper. These manipulations include excavating activities such as digging, cutting, piling, carrying and dumping soil. Under those actions, the soil mass is faithful to the laws of physics and behaves appropriately in response to stimuli. The corresponding algorithms of the analytic models are linearized in the paper to meet the requirement of real-time simulations.
