    Abstract

In this paper, we present the results of our work to design and evaluate relevance filtering schemes for distributed interactive simulation (DIS) systems. Relevance filtering is a technique that can effectively reduce the traffic on long-haul links of simulation networks and improve the scalability of DIS systems. Detailed algorithms suitable for the implementation of distributed data filtering in the gateways of DIS networks are presented. Both filtering-at-transmission and filtering-at-reception are explained. Methods to solve the problem of inaccurate state information caused by the distributed nature of data filtering are presented and evaluated.
