    Abstract

CaCO3 whiskers with nanotips at the ends have been successfully synthesized from an electrochemical method which is simple, of low cost, and can be easily scaled up. A rich variety of growth morphologies of CaCO3 whiskers from an electrochemical deposition have been demonstrated by scanning electron microscopy characterization. The growth phenomena of the whiskers are strongly affected by the nature of nucleation seeding provided by the mechanical and electrochemical pretreatments of the substrates. Finally, according to an understanding of the effects of the process parameters on the deposition of whiskers, a method to grow partially oriented CaCO3 whiskers has been explored.
