Abstract
Continuous systems typically contain numerous integrators which are traditionally all simulated in the same manner. The frequency spectra of the various state derivatives in a system are demonstrated to vary significantly. A method is described for characterizing the frequency content of the stare derivatives in a system. This technique is used to analyze a simple, linear system and then a more complex, nonlinear system. The results of this research are a means to better understand systems being modeled as well as quantitative criteria for the design and implementation of numerical integration algorithms.
