    Abstract

Synthesis of Ni-alumina nanocomposite through the laser processing of electroless Ni-coated alumina is reported. The nanocomposite was characterized using FIB, XPS, HRTEM, and EDS techniques. The size and number density of Ni-particles are predicted using a relationship between alumina particle size and the coating thickness. (C) 2004 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
