    Abstract

We demonstrate that the interaction between a two-dimensional localized wave packet and a continuous-wave background can lead to efficient x-wave generation in nonlinear bidispersive optical systems. This x-wave generation process was found to depend on both the relative phase and amplitude of the background with respect to the superimposed wave packet. Pertinent configurations that lead to such generation are considered. (c) 2005 Optical Society of America.
