    Abstract

Time-resolved shock-wave studies allow the direct measurement of the energy dissipated during the interaction of a single laser filament in air with a water droplet. We show that the filament loses similar to 40 mu J in energy for similar to 50 mu m diameter aerosols leaving sufficient residual energy for the formation of a fresh filament downstream.
